Obituaries & Condolences

Joan Ray, 69 years old of Pittsfield, NY, passed away peacefully in her home after battling a long fight with chronic kidney failure.  Her daughter was by her side until the end.

Joan was born on October 19, 1954, in Norwich, NY.  Her childhood was mostly spent in Norwich where she attended Norwich School.  After graduating, Joan married her high school sweetheart, Doug Ray, in 1973 in Plymouth, NY where she then became a military wife for seven years until her husband was honorably discharged and they moved back to NY.  Joan then began to work at several different places of employment.  In the year 2000, she became a family care provider for Broome DDSO and was employed by them for 23 years.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to go camping, fishing, hunting and absolutely loved the game corn hole.  She was very competitive when it came to playing against her son-in-law.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Doug Ray in 2018.

She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Patrick (Katie) Winton, her grandson Collin Winton of Iowa, her granddaughter Megan (Tiffany) Winton of Pittsfield, niece, Mrs. Tom (Linda) Eriksen of Edmeston, Nephew, Don (Beth) Stringham of Edmeston, great niece, Dana Stringham (Sean Radke) and their children of South New Berlin, Kyle Ray of South New Berlin, Dale Bartton of Pittsfield, acquired grandson Dylan (Lex) Harrington of South New Berlin and her Alabama boys, Buck and Eddie.  Joan is also survived by her life-long friends, Mrs. Keith (Shirley) Winton of Columbus, the Harrington family of New Berlin, Mrs. Jim (Cheryl) Winton of Columbus and many more extended family and friends she loved dearly.

Joan did not want services but requested a celebration of life which will be held this summer.

Donations may be made in her name to the National Kidney Foundation.
