The Dakin Funeral Home, a family owned and operated business for over a centaury,  was founded in 1886 by Thomas H. Dakin
in New Berlin.

Claude Dakin

The business continued when his son
Claude B. Dakin  followed in his father’s footsteps in 1906.

Susan Dakin

Claude’s daughter Ione and her husband Woolsey B. Ackerman joined the firm in the 1930’s as licensed funeral directors.

Their son Richard and his wife Susan, both licensed funeral directors, continued the tradition
and came into the business in the 1960’s after graduating from the Simmons Embalming School in Syracuse.

Thomas Dakin Ackerman, a graduate of Herkimer Community College and Simmons School of Embalming in 1988,
is the fifth generation in our family owned business. Colleen Sue Ackerman is knowledgeable in all aspects of the firm
and assists her husband, Thomas, in many areas.
