Obituaries & Condolences

Alice May Morehand was born August 3, 1947, in Utica, New York to the late Johnson Morehand and Lila Spafford Morehand.

Throughout her childhood, she attended Hope Chapel A.M.E Zion Church, under the pastorate of the late Alphonso Whitfield, Sr., where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of ten. She graduated from Utica Free Academy High School. After attending high school, Alice attended Job Corps in Maine.  Shortly after returning to Utica, she worked a short period of time for General Electric Company, then worked for over 20 years for IBM in the cities of Utica, Syracuse, and Rochester.  After her employment with IBM, Alice spent the next 18 years working for the Rochester City School District.

After retiring from the Rochester City School District, Alice continued to enjoy meeting up with her former co-workers to share a good meal, conversation, and most of all catching up on each other's lives.  Her love for the game of Scrabble was unmatched! She showed no mercy to anyone who was willing to engage with her in her favorite pastime.

On March 21, 2024, Alice May made her transition.  She leaves to cherish her memory, son Ronald W. Morehand and daughter Renee L. Morehand, grandchildren Darius Morehand, Sharaia Morehand Allen (Alphonso Allen), Imani Rose, and Elijah Rose, in addition to a host of cousins, family members and friends who will all miss her kind spirit and giving heart.  May we all cherish her memory, as we reflect on the life she lived and the love she shared with us all.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home 1-2pm with service to follow then a burial after services.

To:  The Morehand family.  Please know that my thoughts and fervent prayers are with you at this time of bereavement.

Alice and I became friends when  we were living in Syracuse,, N.Y.. We were members of the same church, and we sang in the church choir.  She was a very dear friend.  Soft spoken, carried herself like absolute lady.  Sometimes I wondered how we got together as I was quite the opposite.

She loved the Lord, studied her bible, and was never afraid to share and spread God’s word.

Heaven has welcomed another one of God’s angels.  Rest in peace my beloved friend.  You have earned your wings.
