Ray Laverne Miles, 88 years old of New Berlin NY, passed away of natural causes on March 26, 2024, at his home.

Ray was born on July 27, 1935, in Otselic, NY, the son of Harold & Esther (Jordan) Miles.

Ray is survived by his children, Timothy L. Miles of Pottstown, PA, Brian K. Miles of South New Berlin, and Jane (Miles) Hathaway of Rock Stream, NY, as well as his sister, Marie (Miles) Wightman of Saint Cloud, Florida.

In addition to his wife, Linda Mae (Olds) Miles, Ray was predeceased by his siblings, Laverne
Miles, Ruth (Miles) Girndt, Beatrice (Miles) Crandall, Leslie Miles, Mabel (Miles) Warren, and Douglas Miles.

Ray started working on Steve & Eldora Gregory's farm in 1952, then at Webb & Sons Lumber in 1958, and then for the New Berlin Highway Department, retiring after 33 years due to glaucoma.

He enjoyed carpentry, hunting, painting, board & card games, bee keeping, vegetable gardening, canning/preserving with his wife, fudge making, and reading/watching westerns. Despite his many activities, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a consummate story teller and loved reading the paper. Linda was amazed at how often he was right while watching Jeopardy. When she asked how he knew so much, he smiled and replied, "I read!".

A "Celebration of Life" is being planned later in the Spring at Mill Brook Reservoir, New Berlin, NY. Details to be announced on the Dakins Funeral Home website and the "You know you're from New Berlin, NY, if..." facebook page.

The internment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Upton, NY, for family only.
