Obituaries & Condolences

Douglas Edward Ray, 63 yrs. old of Pittsfield, NY passed away on October 24, 2018 at his home following a long term illness.

Doug was born on December 12, 1954 in Norwich, NY the son of George Sr. & Myrtle (Cole) Ray.  His childhood was spent in Norwich where he attended Norwich Central School.

He served in the US Army from August 1972 – May 1980.  He was later employed by the Broome Day Hab of Norwich as a custodian, the Otesaga of Cooperstown as a dry cleaner, with the Shelps Construction Co. of Binghamton, Golden Artist Colors of Columbus, the UV Central School District as a bus driver and as a family care provider for the OPWDD Broome DDSOO.

On July 7, 1973 he married Joan (Jenkins) Ray in Plymouth, NY.  Joan survives him.

Doug loved spending time with his family and friends and particularly enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, family vacations and riding his Harley.

In addition to his wife Joan, Doug is survived by his daughter Mrs. Patrick (Katie) Winton of Pittsfield, his grandson Collin and granddaughter Megan also of Pittsfield and two sisters; Irene Jaquay of Columbus, NY and Evelyn Sabines of Florida, brothers; Danila Ray, Mike Ray of Sherburne and Harold Ray of Preston as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his parents George Sr. & Myrtle, brothers; George Jr, Phillip, Sonny, Albert & Lynn and sisters; Ruth Jones, Beverly Eckert, Sandra Stringham and Sharon Ray.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Dakin Funeral Home, LP of New Berlin, NY with Pastor Jay Henderson officiating.  A gathering will follow the funeral service at the Pittsfield Fire House for family and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 5:00-9:00 PM also at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Interstitial Lung Disease Foundation.

Whenever I say him. Or the time he lived with us in Connecticut when I was a kid.

Aunt Joanie and family, uncle doug was a great man and always had a smile on his face. Always knew how to make ya smile if you were down and was always there to help out when it was needed. I sure will miss him and how he always wanted me to play neon moon when he came to the house!! I love you all so much!! He’s at peace now and he will surely be missed every day!!
