Obituaries & Condolences

Edward W. Ray, 81 yrs. old of West Winfield, NY went to be in the Lord’s loving arms on March 15, 2016.

He was born on April 13, 1934 in the Town of Butternuts, Gilbertsville, NY to Charles and Florence Ray.  He attended Richfield Springs Central School.

Ed was self-employed for 12 years as a machinist and tool maker.  He was the Water Superintendent of Richfield Springs before his retirement.  He served in the Korean War with HQ Co. 65th Battalion Combat Engineers, 25th division with the rank of staff sergeant.  He was also a member of the Lion’s Club and Golden Dragons (because he crossed the meridian).

He married his beloved wife, Virginia Wells on July 2, 1955 in the Catholic Church in West Winfield, NY.  They were blessed with six children: Yvonne; Diane (Thomas) Mayne of Richfield Springs; Bonnie; Nanette (Robert) Jablonski of Cedarville; Kim (Dennis) Euler of Sprakers and James of West Winfield.  Ed was predeceased by three daughters: Yvonne, Bonnie and Nanette.  He was the fifth child out of five brothers and six sisters.  He was affectionately called by his nickname, “Brother” by friends and family.

He is survived and greatly missed by his wife, three children, three siblings, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Burlington Flats Baptist Church with Pastor Jay Henderson officiating.  Calling hours will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Oneida, Herkimer and Eastern Madison Counties in Ed’s memory.
