Ella Holden Wilkinson, of Pittsfield, NY


Passed away on October 31, 2013, at the Chase Nursing Home, New Berlin. She was born on September 6, 1913 in Pittsfield, the daughter of Lewis and Clara Morris Holden and recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

Ella grew up on the family farm in Pittsfield where she fondly remembered helping her father with the farming chores. She attended the Beatty one-room schoolhouse in Pittsfield and graduated from New Berlin High School. She worked at the Oneonta Jet Dress Factory in the 30’s and 40’s and was promoted to Supervisor of the Oneonta Manufacturing Co. which produced mica for army equipment during World War 11.

After the war she was employed as a lab technician at Bendix in Sidney and retired from there after26 years. Ella was honored for being a life-long resident at the Pittsfield Bicentennial Celebration by the Historical Society in 1997.
 

She first married Spencer Rawlings in 1936 and later married Clarence George “Pete” Wilkinson on November 22, 1969. Pete died on March 31, 1983. She was an avid cat lover and gave a home to several Cocker Spaniels named “Buffy”.

Ella is survived by a Step-Daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Wenda) Lane of West Virginia and Step-Grandchildren- Paul White of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Jeffrey (Tammy) Henderson of Memphis, Tennessee and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Monday November 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, New Berlin with the Rev. Charles Taylor officiating.

Interment will be at Saint Andrew’s Cemetery. Donations in Ella’s memory may be made to the Pittsfield Emergency Squad, New Berlin, NY.13411.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, NY.

My sincere condolences to her family. I am Ella's brother's (Elvin also known as Al
step-daughter, Heidrun Mosch. Al married my mother Barbara on November 9th, 1963. Al and Barbara Holden lived in
Hudson, New York until his death on May 14th, 1988.
