Rachel I. Paddock, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, in Cooperstown, NY, at the age of 72. Born on November 10, 1951, in Utica, NY to Cleora and James K. Ritchey.
Rachel grew up in West Edmeston NY. She graduated from Edmeston School in 1970 and embarked on a career that began at The Otsego School, followed by employment as a teacher's aide at Edmeston School before spending many years with New York Central Mutual Insurance Company, where she retired in 2016.
Family was Rachel's proudest accomplishment. She cherished her husband, William Paddock, whom she married on November 7, 1970, in West Edmeston NY. Together, they built a loving home and raised two children, Laurie(Clarence) Smith and Brian (Jessica) Paddock. Rachel's love extended beyond her immediate family to include her grandchildren, Lorin, Cole, Lyndsay, Braelyn, and her great-granddaughter, Wrenlee. She also held a special place in her heart for her 8 step-grandchildren, and 6 step great grandchildren.
A true homebody and pet lover, Rachel found immense joy in her miniature poodles, Cuddles and Snowflake, who were her pride and joy. Her nurturing spirit often made her a bit of a "Nervous Nelly," always worrying about her family's well-being while caring for them deeply.
In her leisure time, Rachel enjoyed watching NASCAR, being a staunch fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. She also supported the New York Yankees, the Buffalo Bills, and followed Syracuse Orangemen Basketball closely.
Rachel is survived by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several relatives including her sister-in-law Lillian Paddock, sister-in-law Lois Aylesworth, and aunt Charlotte Morgan. She was predeceased by her parents James K. and Cleora Ritchey. She was also predeceased by her fur babies Cuddles and Snowflake.
A graveside service to honor Rachel's memory will take place on September 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at West Edmeston Cemetery, located at 855 NY-8, West Edmeston, NY. A gathering will take place immediately following services at the West Edmeston Parish House. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the West Edmeston Fire Department.
Rachel I. Paddock will be remembered for her warmth, her love of family, and her unwavering support for those she cherished. She leaves behind a legacy of love and care that will always resonate with her family.
