Lucy Mae Sanders, born on September 8, 1947, to Rose and Stanley Sanders, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025. Lucy's journey through life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her career, her warm and cheerful disposition, and her profound interests in the wider universe.
A dedicated professional, Lucy served as a Lab Technician at Chenango Memorial for many years, where her colleagues recognized her as a reliable problem-solver. It was her expertise and approachable nature that made her the go-to person whenever issues arose, reflecting her strong work ethic and her genuine desire to help others. Her academic journey began at Albany University, where she spent several years gaining knowledge that served her well throughout her fulfilling career.
Beyond her professional life, Lucy had a passion for astronomy and archaeology, immersing herself in the wonders of the cosmos and the rich tapestry of human history. Her interests spoke to her curiosity and her endless quest for understanding, characteristics that were integral to her even-tempered and good-natured personality.
Lucy is survived by an extended family filled with love and memories. She is fondly remembered by her cousin Lynn (Heather) Brooker and their children, Ashley Brooker and Wyatt Brooker. She is also survived by her cousins Randy Livingston, Royce Livingston, Ronnie (Linda) Livingston, Janice (Clyde) Beach, Winnie Sortman, Raymond Brooker, Allison Brooker, Gertrude Brooker, along with many other cousins who cherished her and will miss her dearly.
Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rose and Stanley Sanders, as well as her cousine Frederick Brooker and aunts & uncles Thelma (Glenn) Brooker, Shirley (Leon) Truesdell, Pearl (Charlie) Livingston, and Mary Whitmore, as well as several more cousins.
As we remember Lucy Mae Sanders, we celebrate a life lived with kindness, dedication, and a thirst for knowledge. Her gentle spirit and the countless lives she touched will remain with us, a reminder of the warmth she brought into the world.
A graveside service will take place at 1:00pm on Friday, August 29, at the Riverside Cemetery in South New Berlin. Following the service everyone is invited to gather at the pavilion behind the American Baptist Church at 3294 State Highway 8, South New Berlin. There will be snacks provided, but everyone is invited to bring a dish to pass as well.
