Carl Utegg of South New Berlin, NY and Crescent City, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 19, 2026 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY.

Carl was born on September 20, 1946 in Honesdale, PA to the late Lois and Ernest Utegg. He graduated from Waymart High School and furthered his electronics education at RETS in Philadelphia. After his schooling, he started his career at Gerald Electronics in Philadelphia. Gerald Electronics bought a subsidiary called TACO in Sherburne, NY, which caused Carl to relocate in 1968. In 1971, Carl started working at C&U, which eventually became Continental, and ultimately Frontier Telephone, where he worked until he retired in 2010.

Carl was an outdoorsman and spent his life hunting and trap shooting with his friends. In his later years, he could be found fishing for crappie in Crescent City, FL. He enjoyed it so much he refused to eat other fish because it never tasted as good as what he caught fresh and he was not afraid to tell you that. He also enjoyed woodworking and making sentimental items for his loved ones. Carl was the life of the party, whether it was at Pageant of the Bands, Judy's Coffee Shop, or outside of his own garage with a cold one listening to oldies on the radio that was never turned off. Carl was an active member of the Sherburne Snowhoppers Snowmobile Club for many years. He was a great supporter of Sherburne Earlville sports, especially when his children and grandchildren were playing.

Carl is survived by his loving partner of 25 years Barbara Izard of South New Berlin and her 5 children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren and their spouses, and 21 great grandchildren, who loved their grandpa Carl very much. He is also survived by his ex-wife Jane Utegg of Norwich, his children Mike Utegg and his wife Gina of Harrison, ME, Melissa Utegg and Mark Murphy of Canastota, his grandchildren Justin Utegg and his wife Samantha of Oneida, Rachael Boylston and her husband Bryan of Derry, NH, and Chyle and Connor Foster of Sherburne, and his great-granddaughter Blair Boylston.

Carl is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Gary and Richard Utegg, and his sister Susan Casteline. He is also predeceased by his beloved companion, his dog Autumn.
