Obituaries & Condolences

Richard Gerald Dye, 76 of South Edmeston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 1st in his home of 44 years.  His loving wife and family surrounded him at the time of his passing.

Richard was born on January 8, 1945 in New Berlin, NY to Gerald and Harriett Dye.  He spent his childhood working on the family farm and enjoyed playing several sports including Basketball, Soccer, and Softball.  In 1963, Richard graduated from New Berlin Central School.  He later attended SUNY Morrisville where he graduated with a degree in Agriculture in 1967.  This was a special year for Richard as he married his wife of 54 years and the couple gave birth to their first child in 1967 as well.

Richard married Kathy Potter on March 25, 1967 at First Baptist Church in South New Berlin.  He worked as a Pharmaceutical Technician for Proctor and Gamble where he retired after 34 years with the company.  Richard enjoyed the simple life and spent his time with Kathy raising their three sons and later spending any time they could with their six grandchildren.  Over the years they traveled all over the state and different parts of the country watching their children and grandchildren in their athletic events.  It was a rare occasion that Richard (Poppy) would ever miss a game.  When not attending one of these events, Richard was frequently rooting for one of his favorite teams, the New York Yankees, New York Giants and the Syracuse Orange or attending church with friends at Homesville Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by his wife Kathy Potter of South Edmeston; their children, Timothy and Mary Dye of Norwich, Thomas and Alison Dye of Beverly Hills, FL and Steven and Stephanie Dye of Whitney Point.  He was loved and will be missed tremendously by his grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Caitlyn, Courtney, Alexis, and Emma.  He is also survived by his brother and sister in law, Fred and Lynette Dye and in laws, Burr and Joyce Gross, Robert and Shirley Boise, and Garry Potter along with many nieces and nephews.  Richard was pre-deceased by his sister Jan Bice.

Calling hours will be held at Holmesville Baptist Church on Monday, June 14th from 11:00-12:00 followed by the funeral service at 12:00.

In lieu of sending flowers, please consider sending a donation to Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Road, Suite #1, Oneonta, NY  13820 or Holmesville Baptist Church, 3024 State Highway 8, South New Berlin, NY  13843.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time.  I was roommate of Richard when we attended Morrisville together.
I often thought of Richard over the years and was so saddened when we found  his obituary on the computer.
