George Robert Wolfangle, 87 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY passed away on November 26, 2020 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, NY.

George was born on June 6, 1933 in Bayonne, NJ the son of George J. & Gertrude (Olsen) Wolfangle.

Between 1948 & 1949 his family moved to County Hwy 13 in New Berlin.  He was a graduate of New Berlin High School and was drafted at the age of 21 during the Korean Conflict.  His basic training was at Sampson Air Base in NY. He moved from there to Chaunute Air Base near Chicago, IL, then to George Air Force Base in CA and finally to Texas where he became a jet air mechanic.  After completing four years of service to his country, he went on to the Baptist Seminary in Texas earning a pastoral degree. 
After his father passed away, George and his mother moved back to Bayonne where he became a P.A.T.H. conductor in NJ for 25 years.  Following his retirement, he returned to New Berlin where his love for trains inspired him to open the Unadilla Valley Railroad Museum in the New Berlin Depot.  George became the founder of the U.V.R.R. Museum, bringing with him items from many railroad sources including P.A.T.H.  Co-founders with George were, William Fliedner II, Carl Carpenter & Floyd Reeser, the original writer for/of the UVRR’s Pen Dragon News Letter.

George attended Bible Baptist Church in Norwich, NY officiated by Pastor Frayer with his wife Bev.

Surviving George are his loving wife of 21 ½ years Beverly, her son & daughter from a previous marriage and their children. Also surviving is his sister Carol Wheeler of Virginia Beach and her children Glenn& Denise as well as a host of family and friends.

George will be interred in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, New Berlin, NY with his parents.  The graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

George was my cousin whom I had only met a few times, but I do have good memories of when he would come to Canada with his Mom and Dad.
So sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.
