John P. Mckernan, 65 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY left this earth on July 1, 2016 due to a motor vehicle accident.

He was born at Boston Children’s Hospital on February 23, 1951 to Arlene & John Mckernan.

He was united in marriage with Catherine Lord on September 20, 2003.  The past 12 years have been the happiest for both of them.

John drove taxi in Oneonta, Sidney and lastly in Norwich.  He made many strong friendships during the course of his employment.

He loved music of all types.  He and Catherine traveled to Seattle and Wakins Glen enjoying all the time the spent together.  They also loved the Boston Red Sox.  John had a special bond with their two housecats, love bird and the dog, Gizmo.

Survivors include Cathy, his wife of 12 years, stepson Matthew Campbell and his fiancé, Pamela Volsack and granddaughter Trinity, whose face he never failed to put a smile on and a twinkle in her eyes.  He is also survived by a brother; Milton McKernan of Wayman, MA, a sister and brother-in-law; Kathleen & Patrick Clarke and nephews; Sean and Ryan.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Janie.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin with Pastor Jeff McLallen officiating.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM prior to the funeral service.

Heavy hearted......an a little emotional......this is just to crazy.....we just seen you the day before....and you said bye candice....by ayanna....I ❤ you...and said love ya to my mom...iv known you long enough to know that you were a carefree spirit, a teddy bear....a gentle men...but the most caring person, I'm honored to have known.....this is not a good bye...or I'm sad your no longer here...but a thank you...iv never been able to call you by just "john"because to me....you became an uncle....family...a blessing...thank you for the beautiful memories....I get to tell my daughters... Cause you only got the opportunity to know Ayanna....Im glad you got to see her the day before....And you showed her, the baby pictures you had of her...you in my life was such a blessing and an honor... I love you to the moon and back .....so with my heart feeling so heavy 😭 and missing you deeply..Sleep In Peace Uncle John ❤💔
